Yeah, but it makes sense he would downplay this right? It's his job on the line as a TG/BBC employee and I bet push comes to shove, he loves his job. I would make a statement about how it wasn't a big deal as well.

I wonder what else was going on to make that situation so combustible. Most of Clarkson's shenanigans boil down to his sense of humor which some people get offended by. Usually the reaction is overblown, but I can see both the humor in it and why some people might be a bit offended, i.e. both sides have at least some claim to reasonable human behavior.
I can't wrap my head around this one though. Who is so petty and obnoxious that they'd come to blows over some god damned sausage rolls? Makes me think there was either something else we don't know to make this some sort of exceptional situation, or I just lost some respect for Clarkson for being an immature prick.
It's also annoying that this has blown up so much if the parties involved don't seem to be too bothered by it.

Some people who are otherwise lovely people magically turn into epic raging assholes. You wont believe it until you see it (see also: Ray Rice, Cosmo Kramer). Could be drugs, could be alcohol, could be sausage rolls.

I'm as mellow as they come. One evening I was overworked, stressed out, sleep deprived. I was washing dishes and my wife was yelling at me for some seriously trivial crap. All I could see was red - I took a giant bowl of spaghetti and smashed as hard as I could into the sink. Much damage was done in addition to the marinara explosion. It was idiotic. I hope never to act like that again. Some people are like this regularly though, especially alcoholics. I imagine this was not Clarkson's first time.
